Hidden Voices: Stories about the Strength and Resilience of Jordanian Women

(تنزيل النسخة العربية أدناه)

Have you ever met someone whose story completely changed the way you see the world? Someone whose words alone gave your life a new meaning? Someone whose impact on you is so profound that you can say they’ve shaped who you are today?

During my time in Jordan, I’ve had that experience again and again.

But it wasn’t the loud and self-important voices that deeply moved me. It was the quieter, more considered voices. The voices of women who often remain in the background and invisible, whose wisdom, successes and challenges remain largely unseen and unheard.

My name is Corinna, I’m from Germany and I’m currently volunteering with URI MENA in Amman. Over the past months, I’ve had the privilege of meeting many incredible and inspiring women who are part of URI MENA’s Cooperation Circles (CCs). Each of them has left a profound and lasting impression on me.

I began to wonder: What if these stories were shared more publicly? What if the URI community – and beyond – could learn from the unique struggles and triumphs of women across Jordan? These questions inspired me to create a space where their voices could be amplified.

With the support of the URI MENA team, I travelled to Ma’an, Madaba and Wadi Rum to interview three remarkable women and document their stories. These women had all participated in URI MENA’s Train-the-Trainer program on self-care, resilience, and inner strength in February this year. I first met them during the program’s evaluation day in early October.

Over the coming weeks, I will be sharing their stories on URI MENA’s website and social media platforms in the form of a series of articles based on the interviews I conducted. Through this project, I aim to make these women more visible, giving them a platform to share their realities – their successes as well as their challenges – and to reveal the inspiring individuals behind the CCs.

By bringing these stories to light, I hope to foster deeper connections within the URI community and beyond. Through their personal narratives, I believe we can inspire greater empathy, understanding, and solidarity, contributing to URI’s mission of peace, connection, and interfaith dialogue across cultures.

I invite you to join me on this journey to uncover the hidden voices of Jordanian women, celebrate their strength, and learn from their resilience. I hope their stories inspire you as much as they’ve inspired me.

All the best, Corinna
